Outdoor Teacher Position

Requirements: 12 ECE credits Experience with teaching lessons and classroom management of 3-5 year olds Ability to carry a 50L hiking backpack Ability to hike 3 miles Ability to manage student behaviors Willing to learn to drive a bus to transport up to 8 students Responsibilities: Drive an 8 passenger bus to transport students from the bay to different park locations Follow premade lesson plans and lead lessons Lead Academic practice at a kindergarten level Manage student behaviors Communicate with parents about behaviors and incidents that occur during the program Ability to be flexible if the day doesn’t go as planned Direct and work with another young teacher who needs a bit of support with transitioning into lessons & behavior management This listing is for a lead teacher for a nature school in San Diego. The program runs from Mondays-Friday from 8:30-3pm, year round and is outdoor rain or shine. On rainy days, expect to come to work in rain pants, rain boots, a windbreaker, a rain jacket, and have extra clothing to change into. There is NO indoor location, the program js 100% outdoors. There are scheduled school breaks during the fall, winter, spring, and summer and holidays off. The program is an alternative for kindergarten and preschool. Throughout the day the teachers lead circle time, academic time, Spanish story time, a daily lesson, lead a hike, supervise swimming, and free play. On warm days, the program is located at a park by Mission Bay. On Bay days, the bus is not needed unless it is raining. It has foldable seats which allows it to become a rain shelter if needed. On cooler days, the program is held at a park with trail access and the bus is offered to families to help transport kids. The bus picks up at the bay, drives the riders to the park location for the day, and then returns them to the bay by 3pm. Teacher hours: 7:30-3:30pm On days without driving the bus, hours are 8am-3:15pm Starting pay is $26/hr 30-35 hours a week Health insurance stipend Substitutes are available for sick days Scheduled time off (1 week for thanksgiving & spring break, 3 weeks for Christmas/new years, 2 weeks off in the summer). 3 month probation period 4 day work week available Hours start off part time and increase to the full 30-35 hours by February/March as the previous teacher phases out
