Vintage Mario Federico Signed Landscape Painting - Capri - Frame 23”x27” Oil or acrylic painting on canvas; frame 22.6”x26.75”x2”, canvas 16” x 20”; backing paper has small tears Found at an estate sale, this evocative vintage 16” x 20” framed oil or acrylic painting by 20th Century Italian artist Mario Federico shows a lovely view from a courtyard on the island of Capri with cliffs in the background. The style is impressionistic. It's signed by the artist in the lower right corner (see photos) and framed without glass in a handsome 22.6”x26.75”x2” gilded wood frame. The second photo shows a 12” ruler for scale. A handwritten notation on the back reads: On returning to Naples in mid-October 1970 following an extensive cruise in the Mediterranean on the Stella Maris we visited the Isle of Capri. We were quickly transported by a hydrofoil boat and purchased this inexpensive painting at one of the shops at the top of the north end of the island. It’s an open question what would qualify as “inexpensive” to someone who can afford an extended luxury cruise in the Mediterranean! Mario Federico is an Italian artist who was born in the 20th Century. He may be a relative of Michele Federico (1884-1966), a noted landscape painter who was born and worked on Capri. The frame is in good condition but the backing paper has some small tears (see photos). This framed picture weighs 5 lbs. 6 oz.
